"We need to prepare for the continuing rise of gasoline prices in 2012". That is the apparent buzz around our Government these days. My first question is: How do you prepare for rising prices when a majority of people on this Planet are struggling economically as well as environmentally. In many cases, basic survival needs are not able to be met. This is happening because of the black gold called Oil.
Currently, the oil and natural gas industry contributes almost $86 million to the federal treasury – daily.
The six biggest publicly traded oil companies reported a total of more than $38 billion in first-quarter profits
Exxon Mobil put part of the blame for soaring oil and gas prices on the U.S. government. "For every gallon of gasoline and other products we refined and sold in the United States, we earned about 7 cents," said a statement from Exxon vice president Ken Cohen. "Compare that to the 40 to 60 cents per cents per gallon that went to the government (state and federal) in gasoline taxes."
If what vice president Ken Cohen says is correct, that means the U.S. government is earning an average seven times that of Exxon. The best part is that Washington lawmakers are starting to "put pressure" on the oil industry for reaping billions in profit. Are they that blind to what's going on or just putting on another show? I vote for the latter.
Renewable, sustainable Energy is what will keep the Human Race as well as the Planet alive, period. For as long as profit is motive and demand for oil continues, we can all kiss each other goodbye. But profits' hand can be forced. We can all seek out renewable energy sources and suppliers. The less oil we use, the less demand there will be. Basic economics. This one "shift" is what will bring us closer to World Peace.
